You better Bull-ieve it! Local community pub, The Bull Inn, goes into partnership with celebrity chef Mark Ellis

4th March 2019

Local pub the Bull Inn, in Shocklach near Malpas is re-opening this spring in a new partnership with celebrity chef Mark Ellis. The pub, which is owned by national pub company Admiral Taverns, is reopening and launching a brand-new exciting food menu, inspired by Mark’s knowledge and culinary flair.

Ellis is well known for his time on the BBC show, ‘Great British Menu’, and has been classically trained in the kitchen. He’s been in the industry for 25 years, working for household names including stints under Gordon Ramsay at his restaurants at Claridges, The Savoy and Petrus. He also held three AA rosettes at the restaurant Peckforton Castle in Tarporley where he was executive chef for nine years.

A local to the Malpas area, Mark fell in love with the pub the second he saw it and when the opportunity presented itself to work with current manager Ashley Nicholas, he was quick to get involved with Admiral Taverns and reach a deal to a create a long-lasting partnership to run the pub.

Their vision is to take the Bull Inn back to its traditional roots and inspire in the village a real sense of community and appreciation for the pub.

The Bull Inn will be offering elevated pub classics, such as steak and kidney pie, fish and chips, Caesar salads, fish pie, sausage and mash and portobello mushroom burgers. For those wanting lighter meals, tasty appetizers and smaller plates such as soups, antipasti boards and cheese boards are also available.

All the food will be locally sourced and prepared on site, helping to support neighboring suppliers and producers and boost businesses in the community.

Commenting on the partnership at the Bull Inn, Mark Ellis said: “We loved the Bull as soon as we saw it. The pub has a fantastic community feel and we are very keen to create a social hub with a family atmosphere for the village. We want our customers to come back time and time again and are committed to creating a delicious menu for them to encourage them to do just that. We’ve reflected our own family values in our menus, creating a separate children’s menu to ensure that everyone can have a delicious meal at the Bull Inn.”

As well as introducing an impressive menu and food offer, Mark and Ashley have been determined to maintain the pub’s popular quiz nights, sports evenings and Sunday carvery to entertain the locals.

The pub’s Tudor exterior has been smartened up for the new opening and the 60-strong function room has been redecorated to offer a warm, welcoming, family friendly space where local customers can host birthdays, wedding receptions, christenings and parties.

The pub held a VIP launch night last week to celebrate and is now officially open for bookings.
