Anchors Away! Community pub reopens with local boat business owner taking the oar

The Darroch bar, a local community pub on the edge of Gourock Bay, Inverclyde reopened last week with local businessman Andy Quay taking on the pub following a £35,000 investment from leading community pub company Admiral Taverns.

The pub reopened just in time for the busy August bank holiday, with an official launch party being held this Saturday 8th September. Guests can enjoy live entertainment from local Bob Dylan tribute act from 8:30pm onwards in the brand-new look pub, complete with refurbished beer garden.

Licensee Andy Quay has lived in the neighborhood all his life running a local fishing boat business but has always harbored the ambition to run his own pub. Inspired by family members in the pub industry he has been on the lookout for the past year and took over the Darroch Bar in June. The internal and external refurbishment has transformed the pub into a vibrant and welcoming family friendly destination which Andy is keen to showcase to the community.

The Darroch Bar has also created a vibrant live entertainment schedule for the pub, introducing darts teams and quiz nights. Andy is looking to establish the pub’s reputation for it’s spacious beer garden where customers can enjoy live sports and surround sound as well as its private function room which is available to customers for private parties, birthdays and anniversaries. Further exciting plans include introducing guest hotel rooms to provide more accommodation for tourists and visitors to the area.

Commentating on the reopening, Andy Quay, licensee at the Darroch Bar said:

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to run my own pub in Gourock. Being a local I am passionate about the area and I am really looking forward to taking on this new and exciting challenge. It feels great to be able to put my own stamp on The Darroch and shape it into a pub offer that I know will really resonate and bring value to the area. With sports matches, live music, pool and darts games, karaoke, quiz nights and poker evenings, there really will be entertainment for everyone.”

Commentating on the Darroch Bar, Dave Balmanno, Business Development Manager for Scotland said:

“We have been delighted to support Andy in realising his vision for the Darroch Bar. His experience outside of the industry is refreshing and his local knowledge will be invaluable for the pub.

“The Darroch Bar looks fantastic and we wish Andy and the team all the best for the future.”
