Admiral’s recruitment events are an informal opportunity to find out more about what’s really involved with running your own pub. So, if it’s something you’ve always thought about, a recruitment event could be the perfect opportunity to meet the team, discuss available pubs and discover the different agreement routes available.
Admiral recruitment events are open to everyone, regardless of your background or experience. You might be a first-time applicant looking to run your first pub or already be an experienced licensee. Perhaps you’re currently working as a General Manager and thinking about maybe going at it alone.
The whole point of attending an event is to learn more about the self-employed pub opportunities available while also having a proper chat with the recruitment team and Business Development Manager before deciding which route might be suitable for you.
There are a few different ways you can meet the Admiral recruitment team, and which event makes the most sense will probably depend on what you’re looking for.
Whether you’re still exploring the idea or already have your eye on a particular pub, Admiral’s pub-specific Open Days give you an opportunity to meet the team and find out more about that pub.
There are separate Proper Pubs events for anyone looking at the Operator Managed route, and some recruitment events are also held virtually rather than at a pub or other venue.
When browsing recruitment events, be sure to check the listing since not every event is covering the same opportunities or even the same route.
We like to keep things very informal. When joining an event, you’ll be welcomed by the team and given the chance to have a proper conversation about what you’re looking for, where you’d ideally like to run a pub with Admiral Taverns and any relevant experience you may already have.
From there, the team can walk you through the different opportunities that might be worth exploring and answer any questions you have about the support available or what happens next. If you’re joining a virtual event, the conversation will obviously happen online, but the idea is much the same.
You certainly don’t need to have everything figured out before you turn up, but doing a little homework beforehand won’t hurt and will help you get the most out of the event. Take another look at the event listing, browse some of the pubs currently available and think about the locations and types of pubs you’d actually be interested in running.
It’s also worth thinking about any experience you already have and how that might transfer to running your own pub. If you’ve got questions, write them down beforehand rather than trying to remember everything on the day.
We also encourage all applicants to be realistic about where they’re currently at. If you’re still working out your finances or you’re simply not ready to apply yet, say so. It gives the recruitment team a much better idea of where you are in the process and what the most useful next step might be to help you along.
These events are designed to answer any questions you might have, so it’s worth having a few ready before you go, particularly if you’ve already seen a pub you’re interested in. You might want to know more about its current trading style, the customers it already attracts and whether it actually fits with the type of pub you’re looking to run.
There are also the practical questions. Which agreement route applies? What would you be responsible for day to day? What training and support is available, and what types of investment would you need to consider for that particular pub?
If you’re interested in taking things further, ask about arranging a viewing, developing your business plan and who you’d speak to next. You don’t need to ask everything on the day, but you should leave with a much clearer idea of whether the opportunity is worth exploring and what the next sensible step would be.
What happens next really depends on where you are in the process. You might want to go away and do some more research, arrange a viewing of a pub you’ve discussed or create an Applicant Portal account and start looking at things more seriously.
If you’re a little further along, the next step could be a conversation with a Business Development Manager or starting to move towards an application, but there’s no need to rush things. The event should give you a better idea of what’s available and what the natural next steps should be.
If you’d like to come along and have a chat with the team, take a look at the upcoming Admiral Taverns Open Days and recruitment events to see what’s currently available. New dates and locations can be added throughout the year, so it’s worth checking back if there isn’t anything suitable right now.
You can also browse current pubs to run or create an Applicant Portal account if you’re ready to start exploring opportunities in more detail.
You might already have seen a pub on the Admiral website that you’d like to know more about, but plenty of people will still be at the stage of looking around and seeing what catches their interest. That’s one of the reasons for going along in the first place, so don’t worry if you haven’t narrowed things down yet.
Of course. You could be an experienced licensee, a General Manager looking to go it alone or somebody considering running a pub for the first time. Your experience will obviously shape the conversation you have with the team, but these events aren’t only aimed at people who have already run their own pub.
They are, although not every event is held online. Admiral runs different events throughout the year and some of those are virtual, so have a look at what’s currently listed and see what works for you.
Don’t assume every recruitment event is covering the same thing. Some will relate to Admiral Taverns tenancy opportunities while others are for the Proper Pubs Operator Managed route. The individual event information is the place to check before you book.
This is going to depend on the event you’re looking at. Admiral runs several different formats, so check the details provided for that particular event and follow whatever booking instructions are given there.
Have a look at the Admiral Taverns Open Days page. Dates and locations can change as new events are organised, so that’s a much better place to check than relying on dates mentioned elsewhere.
