Durham pub holds first ever ‘Taste of Caribbean’ rum and BBQ festival

The Woodman Inn, a popular community pub in Durham is excited to invite locals down for their first ever Caribbean-themed rum festival on Saturday, 18th August. Rum is rapidly gaining popularity as the perfect spirit for summer and licensees Sean and Jean Quilty are encouraging guests to dress for the occasion in their best pirate and princess fancy dress!

In celebration of the beautiful Caribbean, popular specialty rum brand Old J will be hosting their own swash-buckling pirate bar in the Woodman’s splendid pub garden. A huge variety of rum-based cocktails and samples will be available to try including the Fruit Salad (Old J Cherry and Old Jamaican Pineapple Soda) or a more classic Cuba Libre (Old J Spiced and Cola).

There will also be fabulous food available for those who love spice, with a Caribbean-style BBQ on offer. Top choices include juicy Jerk chicken, marinated pork, as well as tasty burgers and skewers, all sourced from local suppliers

Along with great food and drink, guests can also look forward to some fabulous entertainment from acoustic singer Larry Page and plenty of reggae music to get the party started.

Entry to the rum festival is free and there will be a host of prizes on offer, especially for the best-dressed pirates and princesses of the day!

Commentating on the launch of the rum festival, Sean Quilty, licensee at the Woodman Inn said: “We’re excited to be launching a brand-new rum and Caribbean-inspired festival for the first time. We’re keen to build on the success of this years’ annual Beer and Bangers festival, where we hosted over 500 guests in July, and offer something different and unique to our locals that truly speaks summer.”

Commentating on the events at Woodman Inn this summer, Stephen Birkett, Business Development Manager at pub company partner, Admiral Taverns said: “I’m pleased to see Sean and Jane launching their second event for the summer, especially given the great weather we’ve had so far! They are bringing a taste of the Caribbean to Durham and we look forward to a fantastic day with some great food, drink and wacky costumes.”
