WHAT A BLINDER! County Durham pub reopens following large investment with Peaky Blinders themed party

Local community pub, the Huntsman, has reopened in County Durham following a significant investment of £150,000 from leading community pub company Admiral Taverns. Experienced licensee Christina Ord, who has run the pub for over five years, celebrated the long-awaited re-opening with a Peaky Blinders-themed party on Saturday, the 6th October.

The Huntsman opened in 1967 and following the glorious win by Newcastle United in 1969 against Újpest FC, the pub became home to the stunning Inter-Cities Fairs Cup trophy for two seasons. The cup sat in pride of place after Newcastle United FC beat the Hungarian side 6-2 on aggregate in a stunning victory, which saw crowds gathering for over five hours at the pub to welcome home the team from Hungary.

As well as completely refurbishing the pub’s interior and exterior, the investment has brought to life the impressive 150 people-strong function room, which is perfect for Christmas parties, birthdays, anniversaries, christenings and local community events. The pub has always been proud of its strong entertainment programme and will be able to offer an even warmer welcome to the range of pool teams, darts teams, sports events, quiz nights and live music evenings which The Huntsman is known for.

The pub is also launching a brand-new tasty food menu, available seven days a week, which champions traditional pub classics such as steak and ale pie, lasagne, fish and chips and will offer a daily special. As well as this, Christina will also be offering her famous cheesecakes, which include a multitude of flavours from Baileys and prosecco to white chocolate and raspberry. Guests at the launch party will be lucky enough to have a range of different tasters to sample!

With a ‘Peaky Blinders’ theme for the celebratory reopening party, locals experienced a glitzy night full of 20s glamour with live entertainment and recent hits that got everyone foxtrotting. Guests came dressed to impress, as a host of prizes were up for grabs for the best outfits on the night. As well as the exciting gin, wine and beer offering there was a great range of themed cocktails to sample.

Commentating on the launch, licensee Christina Ord said:

“I’m incredibly excited for the launch night. We’ve worked hard to turn the Huntsman into a fun and welcoming space for the local community and the refurbishment will provide a great pub for the locals, especially with our new function room. We want to give the pub a real Blaydon style launch night and hope it will be a party to remember!

We look forward to celebrating this new chapter for the pub with old and new faces alike!”

Commentating on the Huntsman, Business Development Manager at Admiral Taverns, Steve Birkett said:
