Local MP visits community pub in Soberton

The White Lion, a community pub in the heart of Soberton, hosted a visit from the Local MP, Mrs Flick Drummond last week, on Thursday 1st September. The pub owned by UK’s leading community pub group, Admiral Taverns is run by passionate and dedicated licensees Allan and Vicki Marks.

Mrs. Flick Drummond, Local MP for Meon Valley commented on the visit: “It was a pleasure to visit the White Lion in Soberton to meet the landlord and Admiral Taverns who own it. We discussed all the issues impacting on pubs at the moment, including the energy crisis and inflation, which has affected food prices. I will be taking these issues back to Westminster next week to discuss with ministers when parliament returns after the summer recess. My view is that support is needed for pubs and other small businesses.”

“I really understand that household budgets are stretched right now but, if you can, please support your local pub over the winter, especially excellent community ones like the White Lion.”

Commenting on the visit, Nick Lawson, Business Development Manager at Admiral Taverns, commented: “The White Lion is an excellent example of a local pub at its best – individual, authentic and the centre of its community. Allan and the team have worked tremendously hard over the past two years in supporting their locals, and it was fantastic to see recognition of this from Mrs Flick Drummond.”

The visit couldn’t have come at a more important time, with many pubs at risk of closure following the rise in energy prices. Admiral Taverns were part of six pub companies who recently wrote an open letter to the Government warning small businesses will close and jobs will be lost if immediate action isn’t taken on energy bills for businesses.
