Just the ticket! Popular Filey pub, The Station reopens after investment

The Station, a popular community pub in the bustling town of Filey last week reopened following an investment of £175,000 from Admiral Taverns, the UK’s leading community pub operator. Filey is a former fishing village, located between tourist hotspots Scarborough and Bridlington. A soft reopening was held on Friday, the 26th October to celebrate the pub’s exciting new look.

Licensee Andy Quinn, who draws on more than 20 years’ experience running pubs, took over the Station in May 2017, creating a ‘dog friendly’ comfortable and welcoming space for locals and tourists alike. With a separate dining room, conservatory, beer garden and various snug areas inside, the pub can cater for all occasions be it a quiet drink or a celebratory gathering. For those looking to turn a night out into a long weekend the pub’s lovely beer garden also has chalets available for overnight stays throughout the year.

The refurbishment will improve the exterior and interior appearance of this grade-II listed building as well as help towards the development of a wider food menu. Currently the Station has a traditional and American-inspired menu, with pub classics such as steak and ale pie and pulled pork burgers. Andy is planning to introduce fresh seafood and fish dishes, reminiscent of Filey’s legacy of a traditional fishing village.

The Station is a local favourite for its drink offering, particularly for its 20-strong range of gins. It also profiles a great selection of beers, wines and cask ales, as well as an ever-expanding range of spirits such as vodka.

The pub is host to events throughout the year and actively fundraises for local charities. On the re-opening night, a delicious buffet is planned as well as live entertainment from local jazz group The Gelly Roll Jazz Band. On Filey’s busiest weekend of the year, The Station is always packed out with locals and tourists attending the Filey Folk Festival which falls on the first weekend of May every year.

Commentating on the re-opening, licensee Andy Quinn said: “I’m thrilled with the refurbishment and I’m excited for the locals to see the results. This is a lovely local pub that really celebrates its community and I’m excited to see the pub continue to grow and bring in new customers as well as welcome back our Filey regulars. At the Station, you’ll never leave us as a stranger. Bring on the re-opening night so we can celebrate!”

Commentating on the refurbishment of The Station, Business Development Manager for Admiral Taverns, Gary Stafford said: “The pub looks fantastic following the investment.  Andy has built a great reputation in the area but is never complacent and its fantastic to see The Station continuing to strive to develop for its customers. It’s a gem of a pub and a true asset to Filey.”
