Community Pub Reopens Following £185,000 Investment

The Market Tavern, formally known as the Bears Paw, a local community pub in Hindley, Manchester, is reopening on Thursday 2nd of February at 6pm, following an incredible £185,000 refurbishment. The investment was funded by leading pub company, Admiral Taverns, which owns community pubs across England, Scotland, and Wales. The Market Tavern is part of Proper Pubs, Admiral Taverns’ community wet-led operator business, which has over 160 pubs across the country.

The pub will receive a major transformation throughout, completely renovating both the interior and exterior to provide a modern twist on this traditional pub. The outside will be freshly painted, creating an inviting entrance for the community, and the beer garden will receive brand new tables, seating, and heaters so it can be enjoyed all year round. Inside, the pub will feature new flooring, tables, and seating, as well as a revamped back bar to modernise and brighten the look and feel of The Market Tavern.

Nathan Valentine, operator at The Market Tavern commented: “After working in hospitality for 15-years, I am delighted to be reopening The Market Tavern, and revealing its refreshed look to the community. I am delighted with the results and am proud to have been a part of such a fantastic refurbishment. I cannot wait to welcome customers back and share my amazing offering with them!”

The eagerly anticipated opening night will feature an array of entertainment and continue through the weekend, with various food and drink offers to celebrate. This includes champagne and buffet deals as well as hosting local performer, Tom Byrom, who will be playing his biggest hits on Thursday’s opening. Friday will include a saxophone player, performing Ibiza and pop anthems from 9pm-11pm, and the pub will host a local resident DJ night on Saturday evening. Nathan, is keen to create a lively community establishment for residents to socialise in and is working hard to transform this old building into a quality community pub.

Nathan has always been enthusiastic about getting The Market Tavern involved in charitable initiatives. Previously, he collected 150 selection boxes for both the Ash Tree House care home in Hindley and Wipe Your Tears, as well as 70 pairs of pyjamas for the children’s charity.  Moving forward, the operator hopes to host regular coffee mornings for local residents and, through community funding, has also had a defibrillator installed at the pub to ensure he is well prepared in case of an emergency.

Mark Cleverly, Business Development Manager at Admiral Taverns, commented: “Nathan is the perfect fit for The Market Tavern. The pub could not have a more passionate individual at the helm who’s keen to create something for anyone and everyone to enjoy. This refurbishment will give Nathan the tools to build relationships with the wider community and expand the pubs’ offering to even more people I’d thoroughly recommend that anyone in the area pays Nathan a visit, and on behalf of everyone at Admiral Taverns and Proper Pubs, I wish the pub every success in the future.”
