UTTOXETER COMMUNITY PUB REOPENS FOLLOWING TRANSFORMATIONAL MAKEOVER OF OVER £305,000

The Steeplechase on Bridge Street in Uttoxeter reopened last Friday 7th November following a phenomenal investment of more than £305,000. The pub is part of Proper Pubs, the award-winning community wet-led operator division of Admiral Taverns, which operates more than 220 pubs across England, Scotland and Wales.

Inside, The Steeplechase has been completely transformed to modernise and elevate the pub’s look and feel. Thanks to the investment, the pub now boasts brand-new furniture, flooring, fixtures and fittings throughout, as well as six 65-inch televisions complete with Sky Sports and TNT. In addition, customers can make the most out of The Steeplechase’s brand-new entertainment offering with its permanently positioned karaoke machine and state of the art sound system, pool table and two new dart boards.

Outside, the pub has been freshly painted and now features brand-new signage and upgraded lighting to greet customers. The spacious garden area – seating more than 50 people – now comes complete with an 85-inch television screen so that visitors can watch their favourite sport from the comfort of anywhere at The Steeplechase.

The pub officially reopened on Friday 7th November and celebrated with an exciting evening of live entertainment with a performance from ‘Just for the Craic’, followed by a live set from DJ Adam Young. The entertainment continued on throughout the weekend with an additional performance from local singers, Paul Dunne and Charlotte Bettson.

The Steeplechase offers a wide range of drinks promotions, including Wine Wednesday, where customers can get £2 off a bottle, Fizz Friday, offering customers a bottle of fizz for £10, along with cocktails, bottle and shot deals throughout the week.

Adam Hollinshead, operator of The Steeplechase, said: “I’m absolutely thrilled with how the refurbishment has turned out – the pub looks absolutely amazing and it was such a joy welcoming the community back through the doors last week. I’d like to thank everyone, including the team at Proper Pubs, for all their support in helping me to bring this transformation to life. I look forward to everything the future holds!”

As part of his commitment to bringing people together, Adam looks forward to hosting a busy schedule of entertainment such as weekly pool and darts evenings with the local teams, karaoke every Thursday night, weekly quiz and poker nights and live music on Fridays and Saturdays. On Sunday evenings between 6:30pm-8:30pm, the pub also will also welcome a different acoustic solo artist to draw the weekend to a relaxing close.

In addition, the operator looks forward to supporting an array of important community initiatives close to his heart. To start with, he will be collecting food to donate to the local foodbank and raising money to have a lifesaving defibrillator installed at the pub. Moving forward, he hopes to host a series of charity events in aid of Admiral Taverns’ chosen charity partner for 2025, Claire House.

Matthew Gurney, Operations Director for Proper Pubs, said: “I’m really pleased to welcome Adam to The Steeplechase – his energy and passion for the pub is fantastic and he has been great to work with throughout this entire process. His extensive experience, coupled with his commitment to creating a community hub  cherished by local residents, will be key to unlocking this pub’s full potential. I wish him the very best of luck for the future”

Proper Pubs is always looking for ways to support its communities through an annual schedule of events and fundraising initiatives and in March 2024, it was crowned Community Pub Operator at the Publican Awards. Most recently, the Group collected over 20,000 Easter Eggs to donate to communities in need and raised nearly £100,000 in just three months for various local charities across the UK. Last year, Proper Pubs also successfully donated enough food to local foodbanks across the UK to feed 1,300 people for a week and has also been recognised UK-wide defibrillator installation campaign which has already saved 11 lives.

Currently, operators across Proper Pubs’ estate are collecting as many selection boxes as possible to donate to local charities and communities in need this Christmas, as well as fundraising for Admiral Taverns’ charity partner, Claire House Hospice.
