The Golden Knight in Sapley Park in Huntingdon reopened on Friday 30th January following a transformational investment of almost £300,000. The pub is part of Proper Pubs, the award-winning community wet-led operator division of Admiral Taverns, which operates more than 220 pubs across England, Scotland and Wales.
Inside, The Golden Knight underwent a complete transformation to include brand new flooring, fixtures, fittings and furniture – as well as five multiple flat screen televisions fitted with Sky and TNT sports, and horse racing channels. The pub also includes an interactive dart board and a pool table for the more competitive customers to enjoy.
Outside, The Golden Knight boasts a spacious beer garden, with brand new décor to entice customers as well as a new patio.
The pub officially reopened to the community on Friday the 30th January and to celebrate hosted an exciting evening of live entertainment, including a special performance from local DJ, Phil Valentine.
The Golden Knight offers a wide range of drinks promotions, including Wine Wednesday, where customers can get £2 off a bottle, Fizz Friday, offering customers a bottle of fizz for £10, along with cocktails, and bottle and shot deals throughout the week.
Jez Davis, operator of the Golden Knight, said: “It’s been terrific watching the Golden Knight’s transformation come to life over the past few months and myself and my partner Lou are absolutely thrilled with the results of the refurbishment. The pub looks terrific and it has been a pleasure to welcome our customers, both old and new, back through the door!”
We would like to thank everyone, including friends, family, the community and of course the team at Proper Pubs, for all their support throughout this journey and helping to get the pub to where it is now. We look forward to all that’s to come at the Golden Knight!”
On top of the fantastic drink selection, Jez and Lou look forward to hosting a busy schedule of entertainment for customers to enjoy, including regular live music and karaoke to start from 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays. In addition, quiz nights will be held on a Tuesday evening and bingo will be held on a Thursday evening once a month. The operators are also excited to raise money for local charities by hosting fundraising events. The pub will be collecting food regularly to donate to the local foodbank, and it will be raising money to have a lifesaving defibrillator installed for locals to access in the event of an emergency.
Matt Gurney, Operations Director for Proper Pubs, said: “I’m thrilled to see how well the refurbishment at The Golden Knight has turned out and I am thrilled that the opening night was a huge success! This community pub has so much to offer and I’m confident that Jez and Lou will be able to unlock its full potential.”
Proper Pubs is always looking for ways to support its communities through an annual schedule of events and fundraising initiatives and in March 2024, it was crowned Community Pub Operator at the Publican Awards. In 2025, operators across Proper Pubs’ estate collected 17,500 selection boxes to donate to local charities and communities in need for Christmas, as well as having raised £80,255 for Admiral Taverns’ charity partner, Claire House Hospice.
Last year, Proper Pubs also successfully donated enough food to local foodbanks across the UK to feed 1,300 people for a week and has also been recognised in the UK-wide defibrillator installation campaign which has already saved 11 lives.
