‘Time, gentleman, please’: possible extension of British Summer Time is good news for pubs

by admin 2/25/2011 10:41:00 AM

The Government is considering extending British Summer Time by an hour - meaning pubs could soon be reaping the many benefits of lighter evenings.

The plans, which would mean the clocks going forward two hours in summer, have been laid out as part of a proposal to boost tourism.

More hours of daylight mean that pub customers are likely to want to stay out later and take advantage of the extra sunshine by remaining in outdoor seating areas well into the evening, which is great news for pub profits.

Keep an eye on the blog for updates on the latest news affecting the pub industry.

Safety should come first says The Publican

by admin 2/14/2011 2:02:00 PM

A leading stocktake and audit company has provided The Publican with an insight into the health and safety no-no’s that pubs most frequently commit.

Veneer’s list of the most common issues includes fire exits not being clearly marked, incomplete first aid kits, lack of staff training and lax cleaning practises.

We’re reminding our landlords that health and safety should be a primary concern and that they should ensure their pub is always up to standard.

Praise for The Boot

by admin 2/4/2011 2:10:00 PM

Admiral Taverns’ pub The Boot in Kimpton, Hertfordshire has been featured in trade publication The Morning Advertiser’s accommodation guide.

We helped landlords Barry and Roberta Smith undertake a £214,000 refurbishment to convert a disused barn into five bed-and-breakfast rooms and business has been booming ever since.

In the article, which was published this week, The Boot was highlighted as a great example of how pubs can grow their business by offering letting rooms.

Read the e-edition of the Morning Advertiser to find out more (please note – you must be registered with the Morning Advertiser website to view the e-edition). Admiral Taverns’ landlords interested in exploring the possibility of offering bed and breakfast accommodation should speak to their business development manager.

Make the most of British Tourism Week

by admin 2/1/2011 2:24:00 PM

The British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA) has produced a guide to British Tourism Week, which starts on the 12 March, with the aim of getting more pubs involved.

The guide offers advice on drawing in business and highlighting the significant role that pub’s play in Britain’s tourism industry by offering special menus, quizzes and pub heritage events, or even inviting a local MP to visit their pub, to mark the week.

This is a great chance for landlords to demonstrate how vital pubs are to both the British economy and the hospitality sector.

Two-third pints measures to be introduced in pubs

by admin 1/7/2011 3:05:00 PM

The Government has confirmed plans to allow pubs to sell beer in two-third pints measures.

Pubs will also be able to sell wine in measures under 75ml and fortified wine in under 50ml and 70ml, meaning the new legislation will allow landlords to offer much greater flexibility and more choice to their customers.

The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills said it would be introducing the changes in the coming Parliamentary session.

The Morning Advertiser is looking for feedback on whether landlords think their customers would welcome two-third pints measures - email john.harrington@william-reed.co.uk with your opinions and read the full story on the Morning Advertiser website.
