Need a personal licence?
If you are new to the pub industry, or have never run your own pub before, then you will need to gain your Personal Licence.
Under the Licensing Act 2003, every licensed premises requires at least one personal licence holder who can authorise the sale of alcohol. Whilst there can be more than one personal licence holder in a premises, one person needs to be nominated as the Designated Premises Supervisor and this person will have full accountability.
A Personal Licence is granted by the Local Licensing Authority to people who hold an accredited qualification. One such qualification is the BIIAB Award for Personal Licence Holders (APLH). It is a one day course, assessed by multiple choice questions.
Admiral Taverns has joined up with abv Training, one of the UK's largest providers of personal licence training who have venues countrywide for you to attend a course near to you. If you book through Admiral Taverns you will benefit from a special rate of £135+VAT which includes tuition, course handbook, exam fees, certificate, lunch & refreshments and 6 months provisional membership of the BII, the professional body for the industry.
Pre-Entry Awareness Training (PEAT)
Before you commit yourself to running your own pub business, it is advisable that you find out as much as possible about the pub industry and about the types of agreements that exist in the leased and tenanted pub company model.
A great first step is to complete the BII Pre-Entry Awareness Training (PEAT) which is available by clicking here (www.bii.org/peat)
PEAT is designed to ensure that you fully understand the implications of the pub tenancy or lease which you are considering signing. It will give you an awareness of the tied pub model as well as provide information on business plans, the different types of agreements available, rental calculations, the legal consequences of breach of agreement and much more.
The course is accredited by the BIIAB which is the professional body for the licensed retail industry. It costs only £20 and can be completed in less than two hours.
