Pre-Entry Awareness Training (PEAT)
Before you commit yourself to running your own pub business, it is advisable that you find out as much as possible about the pub industry and about the types of agreements that exist in the leased and tenanted pubco model.
A great first step is to take a look at the British Institute of Innkeeping's (BII) website. Here you can find details of their excellent Pre-Entry Awareness Training (PEAT) course.
This is a 2 hour online course, with a short test at the end and the chance for you to download your own certificate upon successful completion of the course.
What's it about?
PEAT is an e-learning package that identifies the main issues which need to be considered and investigated before signing a pub tenancy or lease agreement. It is accredited by BIIAB, the Ofqual regulated awarding body which is part of BII, the professional body for the licensed retail industry.
PEAT is designed to ensure that you fully understand the implications of the pub tenancy or lease which you are considering signing. It will give you an awareness of the tied pub model as well as provide information on business plans, the different types of agreements available, rental calculations, the legal consequences of breach of agreement and much more.
