Obtaining a Personal Licence
Under the Licensing Act 2003, every licensed premises requires at least one personal licence holder who can authorise the sale of alcohol. Whilst there can be more than one personal licence holder in a premises, one person needs to be nominated as the Designated Premises Supervisor and this person will have full accountability.
A Personal Licence is granted by the Local Licensing Authority to people who hold an accredited qualification. One such qualification is the BIIAB National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders (NCPLH). It is a one day course, assessed by multiple choice questions.

Personal Licence Time Saver - the complete package!
Whilst there is no reason why you can’t apply for a personal licence without support, we offer a service that saves you the time and effort. Many people really appreciate this.
To apply for a personal licence you require:
- A completed personal licence application form
- A completed disclosure of convictions and declaration
- A Criminal Records Bureau Basic Disclosure
- 2 passport sized photographs, one of which is endorsed (we can’t help with those!)
- Your NCPLH qualification certificate
If you book our Time Saver package we will organise all this for you, completing all the paperwork and liaising with your local authority. If you decide this is the best option for you, advise our Customer Support, make payment, and then a member of our Time Saver Team will be in touch and collect all the information from you. This then allows you to get on with other important tasks or even enjoy a spot of relaxation, knowing that the important job is in hand!
The costs of this service are:
- Local Authority Application Fee … £37 (you would have to pay this anyway)
- Application Fee for your Basic Disclosure … £23 (likewise you would have to pay this)
- Time Saver Application Service … £70+VAT
