Admiral Taverns, the UK’s leading community pub operator, is delighted to announce that licensee’s Simon and Rachel Delaney of The Firbank Pub & Kitchen in Wythenshawe Manchester have been crowned as The Best Community Pub at The Great British Pub Awards 2016. The award was announced last night at the prestigious Great British Pub Awards held at the Hilton Hotel London.

The Great British Pub Awards recognise industry excellence and celebrate the very best pubs in the UK. The judging process is rigorous involving two rounds of assessment with finalists being chosen from more than 1,300 entries, across 16 categories. The panel of judges include industry experts, business journalists, industry body senior executives and pub guide editors.

Simon and Rachael Delaney have run The Firbank for 21 years and were finalists for two awards - Best Community Pub and Best Pub Partnership. In winning Best Community Pub of the Year they were praised for the work they do with a wide range of community groups and local teams. They were also commended for their work for local charity raising thousands of pounds each year for many worthy causes including The Christie Cancer hospital. Simon and Rachel also support Wythenshawe Good Neighbours, a support group for elderly and vulnerable people that meets at the pub every week to socialise and go on regular days out. Judges also highlighted the pub’s excellent new food menu and its extensive schedule of family friendly entertainment and events.

Owned by the pub-operating group, Admiral Taverns, The Firbank Pub also led this year’s Manchester Day parade and has been instrumental in the development of Newall Green Farm, a working farm and stables for disadvantaged and autistic children through the charity ‘Creating Adventures’.

Simon and Rachael were singled out for the strong partnership that they have developed with Admiral Taverns. From developing their team at The Firbank to introducing food and embracing social media Simon and Rachel have worked positively with Admiral and engaged fully with the broad range of support available.
