The Valiant Sailor is situated on the main road into Folkestone, very close to Capel-le-Ferne (nr Dover) which benefits from passing trade. Folkestone is located where the southern edge of the North Downs escarpment meets the sea, in contrast to the white cliffs at Dover further to the east. The town is located at the eastern end of the M20 which provides fast access to Ashford, Maidstone, London and also to the M25. Folkestone developed because of its transport links. With France visible across the Straits of Dover, the town became an important transit point for those travelling from the UK to the Continent.

Trading style

The Valiant Sailor is a community pub on a main road position that benefits from passing trade. The pub serves traditional home cooked pub meals in a friendly atmosphere. There is potential here to develop the offer more towards destination food. The pub has three cask ale hand pumps but only currently offers one cask - Here lies more potential to push the real ale side of the business. The pub has historically had some entertainment and teams but the style of establishment moving forward needs to concentrate more on the food side of the business. The pub needs to have stability and be driven forward by the right candidate who will utilise the support of our Business Support Agreement. The ideal applicant will have experience of running a community pub and the ability to produce a good food offer as well as engaging with the community to ensure that this is a well run family pub.

Trade accommodation

The Valiant Sailor is a good size pub with a great layout. It is a single bar operation with distinct separate areas allowing for formal and relaxed eating. It has approximately 25 dining covers. The pub benefits from a spacious, fully equipped trade kitchen. The interior of the pub is in good condition and the fixtures and fittings reasonable. Externally there is large car park with spaces for about 20 cars. There is also an enclosed a beer garden which is great for attracting families in the summer months.

Private accommodation

The domestic accommodation consists of three bedrooms, lounge and a bathroom. There is further space where the private kitchen was but this is no longer in situ. The accommodation would benefit from redecoration.
