It is separated from Carlisle by the M6 Motorway, and it is close to other dormitory villages in the area, such as Wetheral, Cumwhinton and Aglionby. The direct vicinity is the village of Scotby but the city of Carlisle boundary is only 1.5 miles away. The pub is adjacent to the village shop and post office and the local village hall also lies opposite.
