The Rams Head is an attractive stone built end terrace occupying a plot on the main high street of the village of Langley Park. Langley park is an attractive former mining village located five miles west of Durham city centre. The pub benefits from a great, prominent location in a busy village. The pub has a post office next door and a large convenience store a couple of doors down. There is also a large sports and social club no more than 200 yards away.

Trading style

The Rams Head trades as a community pub existing very much for the enjoyment of the locals. Its core wet trade is driven from live televised sport, sports teams and a good entertainment programme consisting of regular live bands, karaoke and bingo. The pub also has a good tea time trade where the locals come after work to socialise. Currently the pub only trades in the evening but would certainly benefit from longer opening hours and a diversification of retail offer to attract trade during the day. There is no food offer in place but certainly an opportunity that should be explored with a tea/coffee and snacks offer. Admiral Taverns are looking for an operator that understands what a community local pub should be in 2017. The daytime trade should attract locals but also new customers with a tearoom style offer for example.

Trade accommodation

Entrance to the pub is directly into the main bar area which has a good sized server. This L shaped room extends round to the left where there is a darts board and games area. On the right is a second trading area or lounge where the pool table is currently positioned. This space could easily be used as a function room or café facility. There is a hallway behind the bar which is where the toilets are located and this also leads out to a great beer garden with smoking shelter, bench seating and well-kept lawn. There is also a small trade kitchen. The pub has a small car park with three spaces, however there is plenty of street parking close by. The Rams Head is in really good decorative order having been restored not too long ago.
