The Horseshoe is a mid-terraced building situated in a residential area only a five minute walk into the coastal town of Ayr. It is located close to Ayr Racecourse and Conference Centre and Ayr United FC. Ayr is a large town and former Royal Burgh situated on the west coast of Ayrshire in Scotland. It is the most populated settlement in Ayrshire with a population of approximately 47,000. Admiral Taverns may look to refurbish the pub with a new licensee, this would include exterior redecoration which will help attract new customers to the pub.

Trading style

The pub is a traditional community pub and is very much a locals bar. It welcomes all elements of the community but it is quite sports driven with pool teams etc. It also picks up business as the closest pub to the racecourse and Ayr football club. Entertainment is limited however there is lots of potential to introduce a ‘jam packed’ entertainment offer such as regular karaoke and weekly quiz nights. The pub benefits from a high turnover from machine income and pool tables and has a low rateable value. Admiral Taverns are looking for applicants who have good knowledge of the area and will ideally have some bar experience however an excellent training programme can be provided. They will have the vision and skills to develop the current offer and turn this pub into the hub of the community. Although there is no kitchen, there is potential to introduce a small back bar food offer providing snacks throughout the day.

Trade accommodation

On entering through the front doors of the Horseshoe you are welcomed into an open plan trading area with the bar servery located to the right hand side. There is also a separate snug that can seat up to 20 people which is located to the immediate right. To the left is the lounge area that can seat up to 25 and has a warm atmosphere with the ladies toilets located here. To the rear of the pub is the sports area where there are two pool tables and a darts board. The gents toilets are also located in this area. The condition of the pub is in good order however the pub will require some attention externally. Also located to the rear is a courtyard which is currently used as a smoking area. With some attention, some benches could be provided to allow the locals to sit in the sun during the summer months. Street parking is located to the front of the pub and is free of charge.
