Daley Thompson is the British sporting hero the nation’s pubgoers would most like to share a pint with down their local, according to a survey by CAMRA.
The survey targeted over 650 pubgoers across the UK aged 18 and over, with Thompson pipping Sir Steve Redgrave and Dame Kelly Holmes (in second and third places respectively) to the accolade.
Tony Jerome, CAMRA’s head of marketing, said: “There’s been a lot of sporting success this summer so we thought it’d be interesting to see which legend, past or present, pubgoers wouldn’t mind treating to a pint of great British beer and it appears people haven’t forgotten Thompson’s amazing athletic feats from the 1980s, so I doubt he ever needs to pick up the tab at his local!”
